There are moments when nothing is yet set. When anything could happen. Disaster, ecstasy, fear, tension, happiness - all are held in abeyance awaiting the next move. I grew up in a theater household and I remember loving the maquettes for stage sets that my father made. I loved the fact that there was drama in the tiny set and yet no story had yet formed, which let me provide the action. Once the real set and real actors had their moment the story was frozen and all other options were blocked. My current work tries to freeze the moment when anything could still happen. When all possibilities were possible. The boxes are made of pine, oak or maple. The figures are made of cast bronze, bismuth or pewter. The backgrounds are my photos on aluminum panels. Most have museum grade glass fronts except #5 which has none and #1 which has a slumped glass front.
Most fall in the range of a bit over a foot one way and a bit under the other way. #5 is just short of two feet. They are about six inches deep. Again # 5 is an outlier at eight inches deep. Numbers 11 and 13 are smaller and 12 is 21" wide.
